Eliza Thornberry

July 31, 2008

It’s funny how people react when they hear / find out my name for the first time:

Eliza

Someone: “Thornberry?”‘ (referring to the main character Eliza in The Wild Thornberrys, a nickelodeon series where she can talk to animals)

Liza

Someone: “Minelly?”

Kirsten

Someone: “Dunst?”  — this i have heard tons of times… I’m not kidding

And of course when the movie Bring It On came out…
Someone: “Oh you have a movie out i hear! (laughs)”

Me: “What?”

Someone “Bring It On, it stars Eliza Dushku and Kirsten Dunst”

Me: “Oooh…”

Magno

Someone: “Magnum 45??”

C’mon people…

Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival is a film festival in the Philippines committed to the development and promotion of Filipino independent films. The organizers hope that through the festival, young filmmakers will be able to express their own concepts freely and not be limited by the industry’s present condition, where artistic integrity is sacrificed in the pursuit of commercial success.

I missed it which really saddens me… I have always been interested in the local indie film scene, but i’ve never been to any festival.  The last indie pinoy film that i saw is probably Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros (2005)… i am also a member of the Cinemanila yahoogroup (Cinemanila festival this 08.08.08!!! i really have to go!), although i don’t really remember who it was that invited me there. Hehehe. Anyways.. i really wish the movies from Cinemalaya would be released on DVD… these seem really interesting:

“Namets” (yummy in Ilonggo)

“My Fake American Accent” (about the call center culture set in Makati)

“100″ (i dig Mylene Dizon’s acting… i really wanted to see the filipino production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream that she was in cos its my favorite Shakespeare romantic comedy)

“Huling Pasada”

“My Pet” (a short film)

Cinemalaya should have a list of winners somewhere by now… will look for it and post it here.

Baguio : Flora Love

July 3, 2008

My Baguio trip not too long ago gave me the chance to snap photos of some beautiful flowers seen almost everywhere we went.  I really plan to go to one Panagbenga festival in this lifetime.  The butterflies were tiny beautiful surprises each time I chanced upon them, even in the strangest of places!  I wasn’t able to take a picture of even just one butterfly since I was already happy by only looking and adoring from a distance.

Sunflowers remind of the time I was 9 or 10, there was an empty lot 2 houses away from our home then, there were wild sunflowers in one small corner of that lot, i always went there and caught beetles and lady bugs… yes… i had that phase. Hehe.

I’d like to know what these are called–

More later…
