Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival is a film festival in the Philippines committed to the development and promotion of Filipino independent films. The organizers hope that through the festival, young filmmakers will be able to express their own concepts freely and not be limited by the industry’s present condition, where artistic integrity is sacrificed in the pursuit of commercial success.

I missed it which really saddens me… I have always been interested in the local indie film scene, but i’ve never been to any festival.  The last indie pinoy film that i saw is probably Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros (2005)… i am also a member of the Cinemanila yahoogroup (Cinemanila festival this 08.08.08!!! i really have to go!), although i don’t really remember who it was that invited me there. Hehehe. Anyways.. i really wish the movies from Cinemalaya would be released on DVD… these seem really interesting:

“Namets” (yummy in Ilonggo)

“My Fake American Accent” (about the call center culture set in Makati)

“100″ (i dig Mylene Dizon’s acting… i really wanted to see the filipino production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream that she was in cos its my favorite Shakespeare romantic comedy)

“Huling Pasada”

“My Pet” (a short film)

Cinemalaya should have a list of winners somewhere by now… will look for it and post it here.
