I remember this song to be the ultimate kilig song some time during my late elementary years (AdDU).  Out of all the Eheads songs, this one’s video, for me, is the most memorable.

Yes, it may sound baduy now but I remember dancing to this song with my classmates during some class party in school, and while we sang with the chorus we’d all do the El Bimbo move… wah! You know you did it too!

I remember thinking “Who is Paraluman?” and “I want to learn that dance.” Hehe.

13 years after this song was released (Cutterpillow, 1995) I now know who the woman in question is.

Her real name is Sigrid Von Giese (father was German). Was an Assumptionista. An actress. According to this article from the Manila Bulletin she was the Philippine’s answer to Greta Garbo. Paraluman was her screen name and she won a Best Actress award from FAMAS in 1957. She also starred in some international films, one was with Tom Selleck. Yes, she is very pretty.

Sadly, i still don’t know proper El Bimbo… but whatever… I know I can get away with the same moves from when I was in 6th grade.

And oh, what do you know? There’s a blog about the old Pinoy stars from the 30’s. I like looking at the old movie posters and photos.

Check it out : Move Celebrities Then And Now (photo was taken from there too)

Let me tell you about…

September 26, 2008

The first movie I ever loved as a kid was a musical.  Ever since I was a wee child in Davao, I basically grew up with a lot of different kinds of music.  This new category will feature many songs from that time including some short kwentos about them.

The time I first heard Yano was the time when my Kuya was listening to The Teeth, Rivermaya, Eraserheads, etc… they were hard to miss ‘cos it was the rise of the alterna/rock OPM revolution, they filled the airwaves wherever you went, you remember it… it was the 90’s.  I was still in 5th grade, at that time the music I listened to was very varied since I only listened to whatever my older female or male relatives would listen to. Yano is a favorite of mine, I just found this song of theirs online and it really brought me back to that decade.

This song is about the people who joined the masses on the streets of Edsa in the ’70’s and risked everything to overthrow the Marcos dictatorship and asking how  those very same people are doing in the 90’s.  Kamusta na? Ayos pa ba? Ang buhay natin… kaya pa ba?

Kamusta Na
Yano

Our Father, Hail Mary from thy bounty thru Christ our Lord amen

Nakita kita kahapon, may hila-hilang kariton

Very Blah Locks

September 16, 2008

I need a haircut. My hair’s always been a certain way… long and layered or short (i consider 2 inches below my shoulder short) and layered.  The last time I did anything DRASTIC to my bangs was when i was in high school, and nope I don’t want to go back there ever. I did have it shortened and made it into full side swept bangs early this year… but that was the most I’ve done with it so far. Now that I actually use my ceramic hair iron, maybe I can pull off a more interesting do. Eh?

So I looked at some of my old photos from the past few years… to the very recent ones…

2005-NOW

(i got soft curls for Lea’s debut last december ‘07, and on a day when I don’t feel like ironing it, it ends up looking really wavy)

I read somewhere that for short hair, it is recommended that you get it trimmed every 4 weeks, every 5 weeks for medium sized hair, and 6 weeks for long hair. And when was the last time I’ve been to the hair dresser? LAST JANUARY! Eeeew… I am so going tomorrow!

Frankly, I’ve been very bored of my hair…soooo getting a new not-so plain do is in order.

The Kiss

I would like to know more about fine arts than I do.  I am glad I am surrounded by people who constantly educate me without them trying to.

He and I were at the weekend market browsing through some paintings after lunch, when my eyes lingered on one painting in particular.  A woman locked in a man’s embrace both his hands on her face as she held on to one of them, and his lips on her cheek.  “That is not an original” he said, and I caught myself going “Oooh” but then moved on and forgot about the painting soon after.

Then just this morning, I felt like getting a new diary.  I’ve always had one.  My 1st grade teacher gave me a small hard bound one with pages made of recycled paper as a gift for my 10th birthday…and i loved it. I learned how to keep a diary from then on.

My roommate and I were at the mall for dinner earlier and I thought I would get myself a Moleskin diary with black leather covers however my eyes wandered over to the more colorful teNeues ones.  I took my time choosing.  I finally saw one that was hidden from plain view since it was at the back of the shelf behind the others.  I thought “this looks nice” not really minding the print since I didn’t want to keep my roommate waiting some more.

In the cab I opened my purchase and I showed it to my roommate, she said “Oh, that painting is by Gustav Klimt” and i was like “What?” I then got it from her and looked at it,  “Look how the man seems to dominate the guy with his embrace, and their positioning is weird, and how there are circles on the woman’s clothing, and squares on the guy” then it struck me: I got a 180 x 180 cm Magneto Blank Diary by teNeues with a print of the very same painting I had admired at the weekend market.  I looked at it even more closely and I felt butterflies in my stomach  as it also occurred to me that it reminds me of me and him…

One interpretation on wiki says it best:

The Kiss exemplifies a loss of self, reconciliation and unity that only lovers experience.

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

Haaay.  Don’t you just love life and its many tiny surprises?
